SHARK DIVING IN NASSAU (2/26/99)

When my wife, Patty, and I made plans to get away for a long weekend to
Nassau, I knew I had to slip in at least one afternoon of diving.  I had read
about the shark encounter in Shark Diver (Summer '98) and so I contacted
Stuart Cove's Dive Shop and eagerly booked myself a spot.

Patty and I had a wonderful time relaxing and enjoying ourselves in the
Carribean for three days but the dive I was by far the highlight for me.  The
Shark Experience was a two tank dive on Shark Wall and Shark Arena.  The first
dive being about 60 foot and a leisurely swim along the reef.  Sharks were in
the area the entire time and it was very exciting to see them cruising just
beyond the group.  The second dive was the exhibition where the dive master
feeds the sharks and draws them in for a close look by the group.  During this
dive we were surrounded by two dozen reef sharks, all coming in for a quick
snack.  While the sharks ranged in size from 5 to 8 feet, and swam as close as
a snorkel length away, they were not threatening.  Instead they were very
confident and serene.  Creatures to be respected but not hated or feared.
These are some of the pictures I took during the dive.  It was a great time
and a very unique experience which I will always remember.  I would recommend
it to anyone who found themselves in Nassau and had the chance.  This is a
dive not to be missed.  Thank you to Stuart Cove's Dive Shop for such a great
time and thanks Ray, for posting my pictures.
